About Garden of Delights
Welcome to the website of Garden of Delights. The CD label is located at Bochum, the
most lovely vacation town at the river Ruhr. Like a lot of you might already know, my
name is Walter and I'm the label's founder. According to webmaster Fame I'm supposed to
give away some words of how it had all started.
Okay then, lets take a look at the background, as well as at some future projects. I've
always been a passionate listener to music but since the sixties I really got into it,
becoming a fervent collector of the vinyl, too. When in the eighties the value of some
of the collected LPs increased enormously, it came to my mind to make them available
again, this time in the more up to date form of a CD. Not wanting to get carried away
with all possible styles of music, I concentrated on psychedelic and progressive rock,
mainly of the late sixties and the seventies. Scraping together all the money I had, I
got started. Fortunately, already the very first release, Epidaurus, was an absolute
success, otherwise I might have given up easily. In the very beginning I had some
difficulties in finding the appropriate LPs for a re-release. But then I was helped by
a collector of German rock, Andreas from Adelsheim, who not only knew a lot about the
bands, but also got me into contact with some of those, being in great demand, whose
whereabouts he had found out. That has been the break through.
The first released bands still all came from the German speaking area. Only because it
was much more easier to find them-there was no telephone directory on CD-ROM available
yet. At the end, Garden of Delights was this famous for being a label for German rock
that I simply stuck with it. That's why for foreign groups I'm preparing to build up a
new label. As well there is the sublabel Psychedelic Gems for all those bands who had
released only one or two 7" singles.
When it comes to the CDs accompanying booklets, I have to admit that they had been
quite thin in the beginning. But more and more I attended to the collectors' wishes,
who wanted to know more about the bands they were listening to. Gradually, the booklets
grew larger and reached, for the first time with CD 019, the mark of 36 pages. Since
CD 055 no booklets will be found under 32 pages. With the graphics (artwork) I'm helped
by Astrid, who is doing a good work ever since. Translations are done by various
interpreters, which you might have noticed yourselves already.
Quite often I'm asked if I won't get short on bands. Definitely not at the moment: for
each group I'm releasing, I discover two new ones. I, too, owe therefore a great many
thanks to all collectors, who had let me know - and still do - of those groups, they've
dug out themselves. And there is still a lot to discover out there, and still a many
tapes are only waiting to be released for the very first time. How will it go on? Like
as before! The CD is still going to be on the market for quite some time! And probably
even a re-release on LPs of the label's best works is coming soon.
One request to you: please don't expect me to answer your e-mails, it definitely is too
time consuming. Whoever wants to let me know of a band, playing then, is ever welcome
to do so. But please include the musician's contact address! As for the small radio
stations, which I hardly can all supply with music: free samplers are available at
Milestone, Hamburg, where the best tracks of the CDs can be found. So long guys, see

unfortunately played too often and is therefore damaged significantly; the master
tape was thrown away. Great efforts have now been made to restore and decrackle
the LP as far as possible in the Kerpen Railroad Tracks studio, which is probably
the best-equipped studio worldwide for this purpose. The result is highly superior
to the original, but it is unfortunately still unsatisfactory, especially tracks
one and three - more improvement was simply not possible. Only the bonus tracks
are perfect. The music is experimental and session-like, not trying to meet high
standards, with transverse flute and without vocals. Apart from one gig they had
in Essen-Rellinghausen, by the way, Reaktor 4 never had concerts outside their
hometown, Bottrop, which is situated in the Ruhr area. Interesting mainly for
collectors striving for a complete collection.

GOD 038 YGGDRASIL YGGDRASIL LP 06.2019
Yggdrasil from Munich named themselves after the world ash or yew tree of the Nordic
mythology and played folky progressive rock of a calmer nature, with flute, violin,
and English lyrics. On November 3rd, 1972, they recorded their only LP in the Meilhaus
Studio. It wasn't released then, but only ten dubplates were made. These records
could certainly be sold for a four-digit euro amount today. The LP on Garden of
Delights contains the five LP tracks from the dubplate plus eight Yggdrasil
instrumentals from 1970, then soundtrack to the TV series 'Sommer In Sizilien'.
Fortunately, there was still a flawless direct copy of the LP master tape.
The 8-page insert comes with a detailed band history in German and English, many
band photographs and a story about the Meilhaus Studio and Meilton label.

Instrumental jazz-rock, recorded perfectly in the Stuttgart sound studio Zuckerfabrik

Mixed Pickles', but with funk touch. 'Space Guerilla' (Schneeball 00011) was the
fourth and last LP by Missus Beastly. All of the eight tracks were written by the
band members themselves. The 24-page booklet in LP size contains a detailed band

Virus, from the Bielefeld area in Westphalia, were the best and most famous local
progressive group there in the early seventies. In 1970, they won the well-known
competition in the Recklinghausen Vestlandhalle - still under their old name of Man's
World. The first prize: Recordings for their first own LP, under the direction of
sound magician Conny Plank. That LP, 'Revelation', was released in 1971 and is partly
reminiscent of the early Pink Floyd, e.g. in the final part of 'Endless Game'.
The picture disc edition is limited to 1000 numbered copies and comes with an LP-sized
16-page booklet.

PDLP 5 THE SUNBIRDS THE SUNBIRDS LP 12.2019
The fusion group Sunbirds was founded by the jazz musicians Klaus Weiss and Fritz
Pauer in Munich in 1971, when the two of them had already made a name for themselves.
They got Ferdinand Povel, Jimmy Woode and the world-famous guitarist Philip Catherine
to join them. The band name Sunbirds was Fritz Pauer's idea, as well as the songs in
E major and E minor, carrying titles including the word "sun". E is the sound
representing the sun in esotericism. Due to their good connections, they could soon
sign a contract with the then newly-founded BASF label. The LP was released in that
same year of 1971, simply under the name of 'Sunbirds' (BASF 2021110-2). The picture
disc LP was taken from the master tapes, is limited to 1000 numbered copies, and comes
with an LP-sized 16-page insert.
